About the role:

The Benefits Director supports and administers benefits, compensation, recognition, and well‑being programs for approximately 900 employees. This is a build-and-scale role — while the company has historically focused on benefits, the Director will lead the design and implementation of foundational compensation programs (job architecture, pay ranges, market pricing) and help shift the organization’s thinking to a true total rewards mindset.

Position summary:

The Benefits Director is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, communication, and day-to-day administration of Kravet’s U.S. and Canadian health and welfare, and retirement. This role leads a Benefits Coordinator and manages all aspects of benefits operations, compliance, vendor relationships, and employee support. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, hands-on leader with deep technical knowledge of benefits programs and regulations, a strong orientation toward operational efficiency, and a passion for enhancing the employee experience through meaningful and competitive total rewards offerings.

Key responsibilities:

Benefits Operations & Administration

  • Manage end-to-end benefits administration, including health & welfare, 401(k), FSA, HSA, life insurance, disability, and wellness plans.

  • Oversee leave of absence programs (FMLA, Disability, PFL, Workers’ Compensation).

  • Lead open enrollment activities ensuring clear communication, system implementation and accurate processing.

  • Oversee the benefits module in the HRIS (ADP), partnering with HR and Payroll to support business requirements & updates.

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, DOL, and other applicable regulations.

  • Manage benefits audits, nondiscrimination testing, government filings, and fiduciary reporting requirements.

Team Leadership & Employee Engagement

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Benefits Coordinator, fostering high performance and professional growth.

  • Drive meaningful employee and family engagement through world-class benefit and wellness offerings.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and point of escalation for complex benefits, leave of absence, and retirement inquiries.

  • Promote a high-touch employee service model while driving strategic benefits education and communication.

Vendor & Financial Management

  • Manage relationships with insurance carriers, brokers, retirement plan providers, wellness vendors, and other benefit service partners.

  • Serve as the liaison between the organization, vendors, legal counsel, and fiduciary committees on all benefits-related matters.

  • Conduct cost analysis and provide regular reporting to senior leadership on benefits utilization and spend.

Strategic Program Development

  • Evaluate and recommend plan changes to ensure competitiveness, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with company objectives.

  • Assist with vendor RFP processes and evaluations.

  • Develop and implement structured wellness and employee well-being programs that positively impact employee engagement and health outcomes.

Compensation Management

  • Develop a competitive compensation structure that aligns with organizational goals and promotes internal equity.

  • Conduct market analysis and benchmarking to ensure that compensation packages remain competitive and compliant with industry standards.

  • Oversees the annual review process, ensuring consistency, fairness, and transparency in pay adjustments

  • Provides guidance on compensation-related issues, including merit increases, bonuses, and incentive programs.

  • Develop communication materials to educate employees about compensation programs.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in benefits & compensation administration, including health and welfare, retirement, and leave programs.

  • Demonstrated experience managing benefits operations, compliance, and employee communications.

  • Strong knowledge of HRIS systems (ADP experience preferred); proficient in Google Suite and advanced Excel skills required.

  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. benefits compliance (ACA, ERISA, FMLA, HIPAA, COBRA, etc.).

  • Experience working with fiduciary committees and coordinating retirement plan compliance and documentation.

  • Proven track record of managing vendor relationships and executing process improvements.

  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.

  • Salary range: $170,000 - $180,000
